CLT AIRPORT 5K 2022

The CLT Runway 5K is on a course entirely on the airfield with two miles of runway and a close-up look aircraft landing and taking off. Of course, you still get an amazing view of the CLT terminal complex and the Uptown Charlotte skyline. This certified run is in one of the nation’s most unique locations and is certainly one of the smoothest and flattest around. The course is wheelchair accessible and baby stroller friendly.

Proceeds from the Runway 5K fund Airport Opportunity Scholarships with Central Piedmont Community College (CPCC) created to promote careers in aviation, as well as economic opportunities in Charlotte.

2021 CLT Runway 5K a sell-out success

The 14th Runway 5K raised $34,800 for CLT’s Airport Opportunity Scholarships at Central Piedmont Community College. The scholarship was created in 2018 to help promote careers in aviation as well as economic opportunities in Charlotte.

Over the past four years, six students from Charlotte high schools have received more than $88,000 in scholarship funds.

“We are honored to support these young people as they pursue their educational goals and we value the relationship we have built with the Bridge program,” said Stuart Hair, director of Economic & Community Affairs. “It’s so exciting to offer community members an opportunity to walk and run on our airfield each year and we are thrilled that so many continue to support this fundraising event.”

The 2021 Runway 5K on Oct. 23 was sold out with 1,500 runners and walkers after being cancelled in 2020 due to the pandemic. The race was staged for the first time entirely on Runway 18R/36L and its network of taxiways. COVID-19 safety guidelines were incorporated throughout the event.
